I have five girls, all laying, now. Until last week there were three daily layers, and one e/o day layer. The would all use the same next box, and ignored the second nest box.

Now that all five are laying daily, they still won't use the second nest box. But, one of them is laying elswhere, now. I found an egg yesterday on the floor of the run, and this morning under a roost in the coop.

I can only think it's because there's a bit of a line-up at the nest box.

How can I get them to use the second nestbox, too? It's one of the first layers, either the Barred Rock, or one of the two sex links. The Leghorn and RR have obvious egg colors. I keep both boxes clean.

Any thoughts on coaching them into the second nest box?

You can try putting fake eggs, golf or ping pong balls in the nests to lure them in.

Maybe just take the divider out if you can and let them have one big community nest box. Just a thought!
