I was in the aviary section, laying down and she grabbed my earring. Is she going to be okay? Does it go through the digestive track?? It looks like this. This is the other pair. Is it going to puncture her intestines? HELP!

I found this on another thread, where a hen swallowed a staple.

“Chickens swallow many different things, including glass, jewelry, screws, plastic, etc. Many times they remain inside the gizzard and may be found at butchering or necropsy. I heard someone recently recommend feeding sauerkraut, so that it might cushion the object in the gizzard to help it pass. It probably wouldn’t hurt to try that.”

I'll try that. Thanks

One of mine ate a .22 shell casing. It was pinched shut on the open end so had 2 sharp areas. It got stuck in her gizzard but once I got it moving and out she was fine. That is so small it should pass right through in a pile of poop.

You might want to look under the roost in the morning to see if it's there and obvious. Hopefully another chicken won't find it and eat it.

Egcessive is a Treasure, and a definite resource on the subject. Thank you for sharing, I'd missed that recommend.
