I'm so excited! I have had a broody BSL on the nest (with one infertile egg and 3 golf balls) for 20 days. This morning I was at the feed store and they had gotten in a batch of 300 mixed straight run chicks. There were some that were too cute to pass up. I have no idea what they are but I put them under the hen and it took a while but I think it worked! She is still on the nest and the chicks are still alive. She pecked at the first ones to venture out from under her and made mean noises. Then she would growl and cluck, growl and cluck so that I was reminded of a Cadbury Egg comercial. Now the chicks are under her, around her, on top of her, pecking her eyes and wattles and she is not pecking them any more!

I will get some pics of the chicks as soon as they all settle in comfortably and she gets off the nest. They are bigger than bantam chicks but smaller than the large fowl chicks. They have similar markings on their backs as the "chipmunk" colored ones but are mottled brown, black, yellow, and buff. They look like thay are wearing patchwork coats. I am hoping they are mille fleur something but that's the extent of my guess. They have clean, slate or black legs. Any one venture to guess? Like I said, I will get pics up as soon as practical.

Also found my first TWO guinea eggs this spring today! Good Day! Everybody dance with me!
