My landlord, to my surprise, is allowing me to turn the shed into a chicken coop. I've got a lot of cleaning up to do, as I've never opened the door in the 4 years I've lived here. I'm going to have to close up a few gaps in the wood to keep predators out as well.

I'm thinking the shelves can be used to put their nesting boxes on, or should I use the shelves for them to roost?

They can roost on the shelves just get a putty knife and a snow shovel to clean it daily
easy will be fine if you buy a roll or two or hardware cloth from amazon cover the holes with that holes give ventilation, hardware cloth keeps them safe

Put a roost above the top shelf and a board around to contain the Sweet PDZ and cleanup is a breeze.

Put a board across the front and sides of the lower shelf, add some straw or pine chips and a curtain and you have a nest box.

Just need to look at your ventilation for the building.
