I built a shed style coop a few years ago, but as most know...it’s so easy to increase the size of the flock. This year our flock has doubled in size (30 chickens) so the coop got a nice addition. Wanted to share some pictures and see what everyone thinks.

Inside space - 360 square feet
Outdoor run - 2,100 square feet

Happy Chickening!

Chicks are finally here, can’t wait to move them outside in a few weeks now that the coop is expanded. Excited to finally have a rooster too (yellow blotched head, he’s a Golden Cuckoo Maran)...

Just so well done. It’s so nice to see people who want to go with bigger flocks (which is an exciting adventure) prepare ahead of time and really think it through. You should be very proud of what you have created there.

What is that sand stuff on bottom of shed and how much does it cost? Do your hens ever fly over fence?

The coop base is actually wood shavings from a local wood worker, saves $$$ to get scraps for free. We have not yet had a hen fly over the fence. That said, I've heard Leghorns are known to fly over fences (we have 6 Leghorns in the new chick group) so we will be putting up avian netting to keep them in and aerial predators OUT!
