Shed to coop ideas

I haven't really decided. The floor right now is dirt. I thought of maybe laying a floor down so I could cover with linoleum, it seem it would be a bit cleaner. I'm a little worried that during the rain the dirt floor may get muddy. I haven't really been in and out of the shed so I'm not sure.

Hmmm.....floor doesn't look like dirt, unless there's a lot of something laying over the dirt, looks like maybe tiles?
Is that a pile of rocks to the left?
What is that long angled board on the back wall?
Is it attached or just leaning there, wondering if it nailed on there to keep the building from racking (tilting to the side)?

First thing to do would be clear out that space, does not look like a small task.
Then take a good look at what's there. Look closely for any evidence of water infiltration, either from under the walls(run off from roof and surrounding area) and from above due to any roof damage.

Adding a floor may be a good idea...or not.
Could make a better surface for you and your birds,
but could also provide a haven for rodents to live under.

Starting with an existing building can be a huge advantage, but still lots of work.
Best part about it is having storage space out of the weather and separated from the birds. Check out My Coop link under my avatar for some ideas.

Lots of things to think about.
Knowing your climate would help.

Is that a pile of rocks to the left? Yes, that is a pile of decorative rock I removed from around the house
What is that long angled board on the back wall? The prior owner of the house used the shed to keep pieces of sheet rock and various board while updating the house?

I replied to your ?'s above...

I will clean out the shed of all debris this week and see what I've got.

Thanks for the advice, it i much appreciated since I have no idea how to build a coop :))

Take your time to research and plan thoroughly before building.
Get some graph paper and sketch out ideas.
Save links to posts and/or paste info into a Word file.
Space and ventilation are of utmost importance.

Here's some food for thought.
Here's my theory on the 'stack up' aspect to coop design:
Bottom of pop door is best about 8" above floor so bedding doesn't get dragged out of coop.

Nice to have bottom of nests about 18" above bedding to allow use of that floor space under them(doesn't count if your nests are mounted on outside of coop).

Roosts are best about 12" higher than nests so birds won't roost(sleep) in nests and poop in them, if you use poop boards under roosts it will also 'stretch' your floor space.

Upper venting works best as high as possible above roosts so no strong drafts hit roosts in winter...and hot/moist air and ammonia can rise and exit coop.
