shed to coop... need advice on run.

We recently just converted our Rubbermaid shed into a coop. We just started to add a run and I am not sure if we should line the run with hay or bedding or just leave the dirt. Any suggestions? I have never had chickens before so this is al new to me. Also we started out with a few easter eggers that a friend gave me. Any suggestions on a really friendly breed for us to get next?
