Hello everyone !

So my girl Sven has something weird going on. I’m suspecting it’s an infection somewhere in the laying process … other than the eggs she is completely fine - no breathing, inflammation, Bumblefoot or anything else on the outside. She’s eating and drinking as normal. She also has access to oyster shells and I have seen her picking at them from time to time.

She has laid a few shelless/soft shelled eggs the last couple of weeks. She has also laid this blue clump twice - it’s hard, maybe has some of what I think is chicken puss and what looks like multiple layers of egg shells that havnt been formed properly (I think this because of the blue colour and the way it unraveled - her eggs are blue).

When I found the blue clump there was also a soft shelled egg beside it and one of the girls stepped on it so don’t mind the messiness.

She’ an Easter egger at almost 2 years of age. None of the other 6 girls are sick or have anything weird going on. I have attached pictures !

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated !

What's her diet like? A soft shell usually means calcium deficiency... Try giving her some extra calcium and vitamins if needed, then watch her to see if she's fine after that. If you have a rooster, you may want to separate them if she's getting tired from taking so long to lay an egg that need's a lot of calcium in the making process... Hope that helps! :wee

Thank you for your reply! We do not have a rooster. She is on layer feed and has oyster shells available. We also feed her cooked eggs with eggshell mixed in once a week for the last few weeks to try and boost her calcium.
Is there another calcium supplement that can be given to her as well ? She seems to have decided that 8-12 PM are ideal laying hours so she lays at night in the dark coop.

Any ideas what the blue clumps might be ? Never seen anything like it 🤨
