My little bantam Partridge Cochin hen Millie is setting her first clutch.

Now, she hasn't laid any eggs yet but one, however my two Silver Spangled Hamburg hens shared the nest the day she started to set and as they have also been exposed to my more than willing bantam Cochin rooster Sarge

(I have seen them mate, so I know something should be going on!), I figured, what the heck, we have more eggs than we know what to do with, so why not let her set and see what happens. So I added a couple more Hamburg eggs, so she is setting on four Hemburg eggs plus one of her own. Keeping my fingers crossed that they are fertile!

I have my doubts with her egg being fertile, as she is rather fluffy, but the Hamburgs are, erm, more accessable to little Sarge, so who knows! Maybe in a little while I'll have a few Hamburg X Cochins running around!

Here's some pics of Millie, Sarge, and the Hamburgs.

Quick update: she is now sitting on two of her own eggs and four Hamburg eggs. I'll take one or two Hamburg eggs out if she lays many more of her own, she can't sit on all of them, although I'm sure she'll try!

And, the Hamburgs are really nice birds! A bit flighty, but much calmer than the leghorns. They can be tamed with a bit of work. They're really pretty when they're pecking around in the front yard.

Update! I candled the eggs today! Unfortunately, her two eggs were not fertile.

But four of the Hamburg eggs had embryos!

So out of eight eggs, four were fertile. I'm so excited! I might have peeps!
