Hi everyone,
I just thought I'd start a post about my latest incubation. My first 2 incubations i had 100% & 75% hatch rate. My last incubation, I only hatched 2 out of 12 duck eggs - most died along the way. I followed the same pattern both times with cooling and misting from day 10 but the first 2 incubation, they were all laid on side after 24hrs. In my last incubation, I kept all eggs upright as they were all detatched air cells.
So this latest hatch, upon reading some more, I decided to fuss with them next to never. I have kept them all upright as they were all shipped and mostly had detached air cells. After a week of gentle turning in the upright position, I started the automatic turner but they are all still in upright position. I have only lost a few so far that have died but most look great. I even had saddled air cells that have all but corrected themselves. I have done no cooling or misting and they are going into lockdown on Wednesday. They are in an r-com max 20. I have kept humidity at 55% from when Turner started after 7 days, 40% prior to that and increased heat setting from 37.5 to 38 as my digital and analogue thermometer/hygrometer were reading low temp.
I will update on progress!

The important things for shipped eggs are setting them up right if possible, and the gentle turning.

Misting and cooling would still help since both of those will help overcome the shipping stress.

I wasn't asking for advice thanks. I am simply letting everyone know that I am trying a different approach to usual, based on suggestions from my extensive research and a disastrous hatch rate last time after doing the gentle manual turning throughout from day 4 and cooling and misting from day 10. This time, automatic turner from day 7 with no cooling or misting, therefore reducing stress from overhandling - as I say, I will update on hatch rates.

Sorry, I just cannot help putting my two cents in...Others read these posts too.

Can you link to the studies that say misting is bad for shipped eggs?

If you do not want interaction, you should make this an article and not a thread FYI.

P.s. all of my eggs have been shipped and best hatch rates I had were in first 2 incubation where I had 10 eggs laid on side. Next incubation all were kept upright, manual turning etc with disastrous outcome. This time, all eggs upright, automatic turner. Wish me luck. 12 eggs left currently - 11 look great, 1 looks odd. Movement but doesn't look as strong and I think not developing quite as well. 🤞

I am happy to have interaction but I didn't ask for advice on this thread? I think my intention is clear, that I have tried doing it the standard way, and now I am trying a new way to me. I hope that this will be more successful than last time and if so, I'll be delighted that I read his article. I have no idea where I found it now but I'll try to find the screenshot. I did not say it was a study proving theories, simply that I had done lots of my own research, mainly based on others' experience and I didn't say misting was bad for shipped eggs? I simply said that I am not doing that as I am leaving them alone and significantly reducing the amount they are handled
