Sorry this is long but I want to tell everything I did so if I did something wrong you can tell me.
So I bought 10 shipped eggs, seller sent 12 (yay bonus) seller was very nice and send a little instruction sheet, most of which I already knew to do from my own research. I let them settle 24 hrs before I even candled them. Only 3 had intact air cells. I have a turner that very slowly (over a 4 hr period) rocks the eggs instead or rolling them. Per breeders instructions I put the eggs in the incubator after 24 hrs and the ones that didn't have intact air cells didn't get turned for 3 days. I candled again and the air cells seemed to have settled so I placed them in the turner and let them be for a week. All but 2 were starting to developed after that time (day 10) so I discarded the bad ones and left them alone for another week which was day 17 so I was going to lock down at that time. All but 5 had blood rings so I discarded the bad ones. The remaining 5 were moving and seemed good so I stuck them in cut up egg cartons and locked down for hatch. I was excited when 2 piped and I eagerly awaited....and waited.... after 36 hrs I had seen no progress and I hadn't seen any movement of the beak through the hole so I took them out to check on them. 1 was dead, the other was barely alive, I chipped way at the dead one and noticed that he seemed covered in a goo that had hardened around him, almost like yolk?? The barely alive one was the same so I chipped away a little shell to help and tried to dampen it a little by misting him with warm water. He passed away in the night without making any progress. I had eggs from my own chickens thrown in with this hatch and 100% of my own eggs hatched without a problem or needing any help. 1 of the shipped eggs hatched, he seemed a little small but seems to be doing ok, the remaining 2 are still in the incubator but haven't done anything (hatch date was Friday so I'm giving them a coule more days before I admit defeat). They are the only eggs left in the incubator that haven't hatched.
I had not opened the incubator after locking down prior to checking the shipped eggs that had piped without progress. My humidity is good, during incubation I hover around 58-64 and holds around 72-75 after lock down before they start hatching then seems to jump when the eggs start popping open (mid to upper 80's but not sure how to stop it from doing that and it's never bothered before so I let it be) vent holes are wide open because humidity spikes to high 90's once they start hatching out.
I want to try again with shipped eggs but was hoping someone with experience could tell me if I did something wrong and give me any tricks/tips/ that might help with the next batch of shipped eggs etc.
Thanks in advance for any help/advice.
