I am sure this has been asked before but I can't find it. Do you let shipped hatching eggs rest 12 hours before you put them under a broody hen like you do with an incubator?
yep... a full day... don't short change it at all... The air cell needs to rest... then candle them and look at the air cell to make sure it is intact.... (if it isn't I would use an incubator in an egg carton as opposed to a broody)
Tina, I'm fixing to get your eggs ready to ship.
As with any shipped eggs its best to let them rest after the shipping.
And with broodys its best to give her eggs at night. Best of luck.
I am doing this for the second time for my Orp bantam hens. It has been successful for me.
I would place fake eggs under them while I incubate the shipped eggs so I know which are coming along nicely and some of them would come out clear, stopped half way thru incubation and pop the REAL eggs under them about Day 18 and then the broody moms can hatch the chicks out. You might check on them to make sure there are no dying ones or dead ones under them. I would wait about three days to four days AFTER hatch date before I remove the "dud" eggs for good even you might have a few chicks under her.
