What’s everyone’s thoughts on letting a broody hatch shipped eggs? More successful naturally or with an incubator? Or possibly a mix of both?
I have a dozen hatching eggs coming in tomorrow and my current thought is to start them in the incubator until day 3 without turning, and then stick them under a hen until day 18. I know shipped eggs have more hatching issues so I’m contemplating hatching them in an incubator where I’ll be able to better assist (yes I’m a helper when it comes to hatching 🙈) and then once they are out and fluffy returning them to mama hen to raise. Thoughts? Anyone tried something similar?

I’m 50/50 when it comes to this kind of question. Personally I prefer my broody doing the work, if they were my own eggs. With shipped eggs I’m worry about detach air sack or eggs needing to be carefully handled. And I worry about there maybe being contaminated. So if I have a sick chick it’s already isolated. But ultimately it’s up to what you feel comfortable with. If you feel confident and safe with the eggs than the broody is an awesome choice.
