I know they say you have to let the eggs set before putting them with the incubator/broody hen, but how long am I suppose to let them set? They have been boxed up sitting on my porch all morning and I just upwrapped them and put them in a egg carton. Would they be okay if I put them under my broody hen later tonight around 9 or 10? Or do I need to let them set longer?

What do you do with shipped eggs? How do you set them?

I have herd 12 to 24 hours to let the egg settle

I let some sit for @ 8 hrs. once and had a great hatch rate and I have let sit overnight and had about the same hatch rate so IDK....

I've never seen any differences with mine.I try to let them sit for a little bit but the ones I have put right in hatch just as good.

I believe the main reasons for letting them set are to get to room temperature, or to try and reattach detached air cells. If some of them have detached air cells, letting them set for 24 hours can fix them, unless the air cell is really messed up. The temperature thing is because you don't want to put cold eggs into a warm, wet environment, as this will cause the eggs to sweat, introducing bacteria.

Whenever I get shipped eggs for a broody, if they don't have messed up air cells they go right under her. Don't like to make mama wait any longer than necessary
