Today I received 12 poorly packed turkey eggs. I have the expected detached air cells and also two eggs turned sidewards in the carton, and cracked the eggs next to them. One of the cracked eggs I tossed as itr was leaking, the other I tried to seal with wax. i don't think that will work though as it is a big spider crack.

Anyways, I have a broody hen that has a better hatch rate than me (although I think I have the incubator squared away this time). I was thinking of putting the eggs under her, but then I thought that they should stay upright and still for a number of days.

Should I start them in the incubator and then give them to her in a week or so, give them to her now, or just use the incubator?

if she is ready, put the 10 good eggs under her. the spider crack wont survive her weight

Thank you.

My hen has been broody all week. Before I gave them to her I candled them again, in a darker room, and found that the pointy end of three of the eggs are cracked and another has a crack on the side that was hard to see in the light. I put the 6 good eggs under her tonight. She is a very good broody so I am hoping for the best!

with that many cracked I would contact the vendor. ALl the disclaimers about shipped eggs are for naught of the seller does not pack well. If the box is intact then its the packing that is poor. I hold there feet to the fire. They normally send new eggs or refund. You can always cause them heart ache by lodging a complaint through paypal.

I sent a message to them yesterday. This is the reply I received - "your eggs were insured for that reason. the post office doesnt handle with care. you need to file a claim at the post office".

The outside carton was intact. The eggs were packed with 6 eggs, turned sidewards, per egg carton (chicken sized), and taped shut (no packing between the eggs). There was news paper between the two egg cartons to fill the box. I will check with the USPS tomorrow, but I think Paypal will be my next call after that.

Yeah.... I agree that you should contact PayPal. I would be enraged to receive eggs like that. That is unacceptable! As it is I hate receiving eggs in egg cartons at all. I ALWAYS get lower hatch rates that way but I have never gotten eggs packaged THAT half-***.
