Shipping disaster - one lone survivor

The lone survivor didn’t end up making it either. I had a feeling when she didn’t really start drinking on her own... So sad for all of them. I wish there was a way to buy chicks without having them shipped. I only know of one nearby hatchery and they sell all that can’t be distinguished by their colors as straight run. With prices between 15 and 30 dollars I just can’t do it. With my luck I will get 4 chicks and they’ll all be cockerels.... Or I get 8 (to increase my chances of getting the 4 hens I need) and I’d get 7 hens...
Hoping very much for better luck next week!

It is very hard for chicks to recover from hypothermia.
Maybe there is a BYC thread for your state and someone has baby chicks?
there is a "Swap" and a "buy & Sell forum sometimes on there
I am sorry honey, it is so hard when theses things happen. We have a plan and POOF , gone. Big Grandma hug for you 👵🤗 and a cup of coffee

Thank you for the big Grandma hug! And the coffee! 😊Oufff - yeah, it takes it out of you for a little while .... They were so adorable. I burried them all together and felt so bad that they died because we make them take these insane trips. Nevertheless, the hatchery offered to send replacements next week and I agreed, so here we go again. Really hope for a good outcome this time around. I just don’t have the bandwidth right now (just moved back to our farm but still so much to finish up and no furniture, plus all the fire mowing) to figure out a different way, but will be working on it for next spring.

Well, turn this bad experience into a good one! I received my lil Polish flock of 10 from Hoover Hatchery. All arrived peeping, no pastey butt, no respiratory problems or any other problem noted so far. Thankfully, my Broody Polish Hen accepted all ten. Whew!! Less work for me!
The lil peeping sounds will brighten your worst days. Tired as you may be, those lil peeps bring new hope and happiness to your farm. Good luck and I believe that first batch was a fluke.
Please keep us posted and of course post pictures.
