Those of you who use Express Mail to ship eggs, or have in the past...

Does it seem that it takes just about the same amount of time, less time, or more time for them to arrive to the destination?

Also, Can you tell if they were handled more roughly?

Please feel free to share any of your personal experiences shipping or receiving eggs via Express.

I only use 1st class unless the buyer insists on and pays for PM.

I havent found any difference in shipping times for packages under 300-400 miles.

If I am shipping from VA to Maine or VA to California, I might use PM.

My first mailed eggs will be on their way in a week or so, I'd be happy to let you know how long it took.

I had to giggle a little bit when I was thinking of my reply. I do a lot of mailing via USPS. I will tell you no question that Priority does not mean faster. You sort of have to dig a little deeper or do a lot of mailing, even look into just how USPS moves packages around to understand what they consider "Priority"

I do not ship Express so cannot say about that option. But I can tell you no question about it. Priority is no "faster" than Priority, except maybe when USPS is Busy. Priority means they are loaded first on the very same trucks as first class. Priority is lower cost for any package over 13 ounces, and is far more predictable to estimate.

I have mailed over 100 packages in one day. about half and half priority and first class. all packages arrived within a two day period of each other to all destinations, with the exception of about 3% that where delayed by a day or two. the arrival was a fairly even mix of priority and first class packages.

What does have more impact on how fast a package arrives has more to do with how many other packages are going that way than how you mail it. Mail may be held up an extra day if there is not enough going that way. It may get sent to strange places in order to help fill some other truck going that way, etc.

My reason in asking is that I shipped a package of eggs on Tuesday afternoon via Express Mail by buyer request. Cost $43 and some change. Well, I got an email this morning saying that they had expected them on Wednesday and they had not arrived. The eggs were going to Oregon. They were upset since they were going on vacation for a week and would not be home to get the eggs. You would think that you would wait a week and then get eggs so that they would not be left alone in the incubator for a week.

I offered to send replacements for the cost of shipping. Was this the wrong thing to do? What would your advice be?

I would say replacing the eggs if they payed shipping is going above an bond on this one.

Weather I did would really be a matter of how many eggs I was getting a day v/s the orders I had.

When I was shipping items for ebay sales I figgered that so long as I met my promised shipping date and my packaging kept the item intact, my responsability was complete. If I goofed, I made it right. I never promised a delivery date, just the day it would be shipped.

No way would I guarantee someone else's service. I even had a seller offer to replace eggs that had the air sacks rupture due to shipping for the cost of shipping. I am not completely certain I will ask them to. Ordering eggs when you are going to be gone for a week does not add up for me. and USPS does not claim express is overnight. check the rates for overnight.

if it helps any, the 8 eggs that you shipped me arrived on Saturday morning 3/13 at the post office. When I arrived to pick them up the lady went back and got a plastic container that had the box in it and tape over the top so it could not get out of the box. I asked why that was and she said it was b/c it was marked fragile live embryo's. No dents or marks on the box.
