Shipping Farm Fresh Eggs for Christmas

That's a really good idea and sounds a lot more fun than just getting eggs delivered I just wouldn't know where to start with that and where to keep them. Stupid question/comment but i'd then need to get her a coop and make sure it's heated for winter time right?
No, the real danger is frostbite, which happens in the presence of moisture. A coop needs good ventilation but also needs to protect the chickens from being directly hit with wind. Getting close to grown chickens helps solve a lot of the problems that you run into with raising chickens. Adults are much easier to care for. You could post a question on how to get started in the managing your flock section.

Are they young? When they get older or go into molt they will slack off or stop completely for a little while. The only thing keeping us in eggs right now is our 18 pullets that just started laying most of my older birds are only giving me 1-3 a week, if that.
Yes under a year. Tried incubating some only one hatched and its a roo. Of course:he

Did you try hatching eggs that were small and laid within the first month of laying? Pullet eggs can be hard to hatch because they are smaller than an average egg should be. Look into what the average egg size is for the breed of chicken you are trying to hatch and select eggs of that size. Some breeds get their eggs up to size within 2-3 months of laying, others can take 4-5 months. My Buffs took FOREVER to start laying decent sized eggs. I haven't tried hatching any of their eggs yet.

I did try to incubate too soon. Thank you for the information. I have one girl who still randomly lays double yolkers. I am afraid to try again because we aren't good at culling. My hubby can cull them but i would have to process them. I think i would be okay with the skinning method but im a complete noob to how to do any of it.

I was a noob at culling a year ago. It takes practice. I save the skin because it adds so much flavor. if you want me to give you the resources that helped me. Send me a PM and I'll give them to you.
