Shipping Live Birds Procedure

What are the steps to take in order to ship a live bird (chicks and older)?

Approved shipping containers.

Make sure you have any health papers in order for the state you're shipping to.

Check with the PO that the temps on both ends are such that they can accept lives for shipment.

The day of shipment the Po will have to check that the hub has a flight accepting lives that day.

Chicks must be shipped within 24 hours of hatch and can be shipped Priority or Express, although I recommend Express as it is the only method that provides some sort of tracking and guarantee.

Anything over a day old must be shipped Express. I don't recommend shipping after a day old until they reach about 6 weeks or more to ensure they can survive shipping. Between a day and six weeks is risky.
