So I let my ladies free range in the backyard and my family knows they have outside shoes that never go in the house. But when we have visitors or even parties it would be impractical to have visitors bring an extra pair of shoes or wipe the bottoms of their shoes with Clorox wipes everytime they come back into the house.

What do you guys do to prevent chicken poop from getting into your house during parties or when visitors come by?

Yea that seems fine what you are doing but I let my chickens outside of the coop and outside of the run and they free range in my fenced in backyard which is about 1/4 acre.

I don't really see any way around it if the chickens and visitors are absolutely going to share the same area short of asking visitors to remove shoes before going in the house which may be awkward and some may not appreciate it! Unless you use one of those shoe bath type things such as are used for biosecurity that people could step into at the door and then wipe the bottoms of their shoes on a towel or thick rug before entering the house. It probably wouldn't be great for people wearing sandals I guess.

Make sure your guests stay outside? Make sure they stay inside? Keep the party in the front yard? Don't have guests? Put a throw rug in front of the door and hope they use it? Plan on vacuuming after the guests leave? I don't know. I guess it's not something I worry too much about.

I don't see a problem asking visitors to remove their shoes before going in the house. In my job I'm in a lot of homes and am regularly asked to remove my shoes, I'm never offended.
