So my husband is the least handy man on the planet. I am handy but with a 1 year old I don't have the time or energy to go in depth. We are putting our coop in our barn, well we're just converting the hay storage area into the coop. Pics will be posted eventually. My big questions are about the floor and nesting boxes.
Is a cement floor ok? It's dirt right now but various animals have dug in and out of it. To prevent that I believe we'll have to go cement.
For the nesting boxes is this cheat going to be acceptable?

Turned on it's side will it be big enough to be a proper nesting box?

Also, the plan is to use a largish cat door as they usually have metal closures as the door to the coop.

Also thinking that I could add moulding on the front edge of that cube shelf to keep the hay from falling out of the boxes.

That cube storage thingy should work fine with a short board to hold in nesting material, and mounted against a flat wall. The only thing I would worry about is moisture. Those storage cubes are made from pressboard, and can warp and fall apart after a while in humid outdoor conditions. But even in high humidity (as long as they're not getting rained on or something), they should still last at least a year or two. I actually have two of those exact storage thingies sitting around while I debate using them for nest boxes myself

Old dresser drawers work well too. Or clean, empty buckets. Empty plastic cat litter containers... Don't be afraid to get creative. Lately, everywhere I go, I'm seeing some kind of container, bin, etc. and think to myself, "My chickens could nest in that."

If animals can dig in and out of your coop, you definitely should pour some concrete or build some other solid flooring. Discovering an entire coop full of chickens killed or missing because of an opossum or mink is no picnic.

Wyoming is the antithesis to moisture so I should be good there. I've been looking on craigslist and freecycle but haven't found anything that I thought I could use yet. Will keep looking!
