My rooster got bumblefoot (or so i thought?) in an unusual spot (in a crack between his back toe and foot) and I didn't notice for a while until he started sitting around the yard more often and moving less. After inspection a few days ago, I noticed the bumble and cut out some of the deadened skin. There isn't really any puss though, which is confusing me - the wound never had the round swelling and plug that bumble normally has
Now he's even less mobile than before, and it looks like there's darkness appearing on the other side of the toe, and I can't tell if this is bruising or spreading infection. He is eating and drinking when I put food in front of him, but has given up on trying to limp to find it.
The question is now is, does this look like it'll get better? Should I continue waiting-and-seeing (washing it out every day), or amputate the toe? Or should I put the guy down and spare him the pain?
