Should I attach coop to existing storage barn?

We are building a new coop and chicken run behind our storage barn where it will be protected from wind, and be downwind from the house.

We are considering building a henhouse and having it abut the back wall of the barn. We would cut a door in the barn wall that would enter the henhouse. This way we will be able to access the (raised) hen house from within the barn during the winter.

In the winter here (near Buffalo NY) the snow can really pile up in large drifts behind the barn. Access through the snow could be strenuous, but if I can simply access from within the barn it would be easier.

Are there any drawbacks to this idea, such as odor, varmints, etc. that are specifically caused by being attached to the barn?
Plan B is to simply build ten feet behind the barn.

I don't see any reason to not do it. Just make sure that there are no holes in the wall that is shared by the coop and the barn. Those birds produce ALOT of dust that'll get all in the barn if you're not careful

I have three coops attached to my small hay barn, no problems. Actually it is handy.
No problems with rodents but I have five cats.
