This is my first venture into the world of chickens, so any advice would be appreciated. I have 8, 4-day old chicks. All are doing really well. Eating, drinking, pooping etc.. I noticed today that one chick has a small brown nodule near her rear. At first, I assumed she had a dirty vent, so I wiped her down with a warm wash cloth. I discovered that it's actually located below her vent (when looking from the rear) and her vent is clean and fine. It doesn't want to come off and I don't want to stress her out too much. She appears to be super healthy. Anyone have any idea what this might be? Not sure if it's just some junk stuck down there which will eventually fall off, but my husband says he say what looked like a slit-like opening in the skin, similar to a vent, when he pushed the nodule to the side. It's stuck to the down on only one side. My husband is gonna try to get some macro photos.

It is her "belly button". Please look into what you are picking at before you pick at things in that area. You can do serious damage if you don't leave it alone.

Its where the umbilical cord was attached, don't pick it! Eventually it'll heal up and go away, but for now just leave it be :)

Thanks...That's what we kind of figured. I didn't try to remove it. Just wiped gently with a warm cloth :)
