Should I be worried about this comb/wattle?

Hi,

Our little Serama Gary has been having purplish tips to his comb more recently, and this morning has a spot of it on his wattle too. He’s always done it on and off but my girlfriend’s really worried about him at the minute. We did find a few red mites on him which I think might be to do with that, although we’ve given his house a good clean and him a good dusting with the powder we have.

He’s had a cuddle in bed and it’s returned to his normal red colour, but we’re worried cause it does keep going back to this slightly purple colour.

Can we do anything for this little boy?

He looks anemic to me and you could add poultry vitamins to his water and feed him some raw liver with scrambled eggs to help restore the lost red blood cells.

I would keep him in the house until fully recovered and not place him back in the coop unless you can be certain that there are no mites left.
You can use double-sided adhesive tape under the roosts for mite control.

Do you keep other chickens in this coop as well?

He is such a small guy that mites can easily kill him in one or two nights.

And welcome to the BYC community! :frow
