I currently have six GC pullets about to start laying. I like the look of this roo but don't wan't to worry about my girls getting ruffed up. What would you do. I am new to chickens. Advise needed. Thanks.

I think one rooster with six pullets would be just fine. I don't have roosters and I'm also a chicken newbie but I'm guessing that it would be just fine haha. Lots of help, I know

That is a really pretty bird, though!!!

He's pretty. If you are worried about him being rough on your hens, why not ask the current owner how the roo is with his/her hens? You might not get an honest answer, but then again you might. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether or not a roo will be hard on the girls until you try it. You could always sell him if it doesn't work out.

Just get one you want to look at. You can write and ask about him. One roo with 6 hens is fine if they have enough space.
Make sure to quarantine him and dont get him if the facilities are not up to par.......

He should be about the same age as your pullets, and you will need to quarantine hm for a month. At that age, you are not likely going to be able to predict how rough he will be on them.

I wouldn't pay much. Many people give roos away if they feel the roo will not be Sunday supper. Check the BST for chickens section here.

How critical is it to quarantine a new roo? I have a fiesty cockerel with 11 20 week old pullets and I may need to get rid of him. If I add a calmer replacement roo my set up really would not allow 30 day quarantine. I know its best to avoid bringing in disease but how great a chance would I be taking?
