Should I buy this shed?

Well, I'm 6'4" and the chickens are my thing. :) So I built the height I wanted.

But it looks good. Ventilation will not be difficult to cut the openings. Looking at prices in your area, definitely higher than here. Install hard wire cloth to keep predators out...build a little wood awning over the openings if you want for additional protect from incoming rain (our rain is often coming in sideways with the wind) and you are set!

Good luck.

Thanks, i hadn't thought of that. That's a great idea.

Re. the height, here's my reasoning. I need a coop quick as we will move in about 4 weeks and I want to get pullets right away. So, I asked my builder how much it would cost if he built it (answer: $5K - never mind, I'll find another solution). So I figured I go with this shed because it is cheap and quick and if the setup after a couple of months/years isn't what we like, we can use it as a shed and build another better coop at our leisure, and not while we are trying to get the house built, get the move organized, packing boxes and all of that.

I love the challenge of building one of these nice coops one day, the timing is just not right at this moment.

Very easy to modifiy that shed for ventilation and widows. Add your framing first for the opening, drill a hole and cut out the hole with a jigsaw, or use a sawzall or circular saw.

Once you figure out where they'll be, it should be a 30 minute job at most.

Just a little update. Went and looked at the shed and it is extremely well built, 2x4 16" oc (I measured), all exterior grade plywood, T111 siding, shingled roof and a double access door (this will be great for cleaning as we can almost move the tractor into it, lol). The whole thing felt sturdy and heavy. As I mentioned in my first post, it sold for $725 including delivery to our lot, and moving it in place. I still think it was a very good buy. As predicted my DH wasn't too thrilled about the roof height, but I gather he's glad that he now got out of the cleaning duties inside. The only think that I didn't like about it is that it doesn't have any roof overhang, so I'll have to think about how to prevent rain getting into windows etc.

So I went and bought it. Am now trying to find what I need to convert it on Craigslist. I might have found a piece of 4x8 plywood for free - for nestboxes, and a laminate counter top (could be a poopboard) also for free, but I still need to hear back from these folks. I'll go to restore to see if I can find some cheap windows.

I'm super excited and I think this is altogether very doable.

You made a steal - I just purchased & built a vynal shed for $500 Plus the floor was another $150 & I had to do all the work myself! & I though that was a deal!

Don't try to raise the roof if you are not a good carpenter. It will be much easier to cut out square windows between the studs & use the cut out as a shutter. Add a hinge or two to the cut out peice so you can swing them closed in the winter. Put hardware cloth over the openings to keep out bats & other smaller critters.

Great buy!

Good luck.
