My little silkie went broody about 2 months ago (yes, it has been almost that long). I gave her some eggs to sit on, one started developing, but got eaten at about 15 days by one of the other hens

, and the other eggs either didn't develop or went bad. Sooo, I gave her 2 more eggs on 3/30. One is from my EE and one is from my black copper marans. I can't see into the marans egg to see if it is developing, but there is no smell coming from it. The EE egg is/was definitely growing, and when I candle it, I see only black inside. But, it hasn't hatched. At this point, is it safe to assume these eggs are dead

. I have her locked in a cage because the other hens were kicking her of the nest and I was afraid the eggs would get eaten again or left for too long. The weather has been unusually cool, and she is a tiny chicken. Could cooler temps. delay the hatching this long?

So how long has she been sitting on the new eggs you gave her???

I'm sorry that not a bunch of people answered, you can always slip a few day old chicks under her when shes asleep, or just hope for the egg/s, keep us informed, atleast wait to see if the eggs hatch, if not, you can always give her some chicks

Is she eating and drinking OK ~ to me her health would be more important than the eggs at this point. If she is healthy and eating and drinking I would leave her have the eggs for about 23 or 24 days after she first got them ~ after that you may either get her a couple of day old chicks or try to break her broodiness.

She has food and water and I give her treats. I don't really want more chickens, I wanted these eggs to hatch because they were my from my hens. I guess I will just open the cage and take out the eggs. She has to be tired of sitting (the cage is 18x32 in and she is teeny tiny, so she has plenty of room to move around and stretch), and besides, her boyfriend has had to sleep alone for 2 weeks. thanks anyway folks.

hi., you could do a search on your topic youre asking for. so you dont feel bad with not a bunch of answers.. sometimes it takes awhile for people to answer.
i do the search box alot! its so great to read about others experiences.
good luck and blessings~

I set eggs on the first of April. Today would have been day #23 for me. I stopped. Give it another day and then I would say it is not happening.
