It’s been 12 hours for this chick and he has made little progress. I have no idea how to help even if it’s suggested I should.

It's okay, it can take 24 hrs for them to zip after external pip.

Be patient, i had a little one go 30 hrs in the same situation as yours, and went to check on it and he was right as rain

Thanks. It’s hard seeing the little flap of membrane start to dry out on him. He peeps a lot and it’s tough to hear that too! How will I know if the membrane is too dry? It’s at 75% now. It does look a bit yellow now and when he tries to poke through he can’t seem to get it done.

You can moisten it with water, gently!

yes that is true a mother hens voice helps too. but sometimes ...only hatch eggs
