Should my Silkies be kept in a seperate coop?

I don't put my little silkie hens in with my bbs Orpingtons because the Orp rooster could break their backs or cause any number of other damages. If I had banty (spelling?) hens and roosters, then I might mix them, probably not though; chickens are chickens, and silkies are silkies.

Okay i am definately going to put them in a seperate coop. But should i build them their own run? They have 1/2 acre fenced in area should i let them out with the other chickens?

Thank you so much, just a worried mama.

I keep my Silkies, and standards in seperate coops. I wouldn't take the chance . They wouldn't stand a chance with a larger agressive chicken. Just my opinion.

I don't know about other silkies, but mine usually stay in a very small area of the fenced in back yard, doing no damage to plants. The Orpingtons freerange outside the yard'sfence, kept in by a loose, freestanding fence with no posts; they were doing a LOT of damage to flowerbeds.
