Should they have grit?

I have 4 6 week old RIRs and 4 3week old BRs. Lately they have been fed grass clippings and leaf raking debris in addition to chick starter. The run that they have is roofed and very sandy. Are they getting enough grit from scratching around or should I supply it for them?

I would say no... If the run is sandy they all the grit they need..

Are there pebbles in the sand also? If so then they shouldn't need any grit.

I was told last weekend by an employee of a fleet and farm store that if you are buying their bag feed that you don't need to add any additional grit.

He didn't care for my response as I loaded up a bag anyway. I don't buy their over priced feed!
