I raise silkies for shows and have some silkie chicks that are about 7 weeks old. This was kinda an accidental hatch and I think my non-bearded silkie roos bred with one of my bearded hens, but I’ve never raised bearded silkies from chicks so it’s a little hard to tell if they are full bearded or mixed.

Bearded chicks have little beards. IMG_2391.jpeg

That doesn’t mean non bearded aren’t pure silkie though. It’s just a trait or attribute some carry.

Yes, I only have silkies so I know that they are not mixed with a different breed, sorry for the misunderstanding. When I said “mixed” I was referring to a chick with bearded and non-bearded parents. To me, my chicks look as if they have a little beard growing, along with muffs, but it didn’t seem as if that was the normal size it should be. If they were pure non-bearded, they would not have any fuzz under their beaks. The bearded gene in chickens is shown as incomplete dominance when mixed with different phenotypes such as nakedneck, or in this case, the non-bearded gene, which is recessive. Do you have a bearded silkie chick around the same age as my chicks I could compare them to?

He might have been a little older in this pic.
