Dianki, my super prise hen injured herself this weekend. (who knew chicken wire was hazardous to chickens)
She broke off the phalanx of her first toe ( the one that points back ) .
Clean break but that small tip of her toe will not be growing back. She is almost perfect in all other respects to the breed. I know she would rank high if it's just a fault. If it's a DQ I will not bring her. If I don't bring her then I will have just 1 perfect rooster but I want him to have company both in the trip there, and in isolation afterwards. So I guess what I'm saying is if 1 doesn't go them the other won't. Why show if you can't bring your "A-Game"?
Will this be a fault?
The breed is Ameraucana. Then hen is Wheaton viariety and the rooster is Blue Wheaton variety. they will be over 1 year old at show time for Nationals in Indiannapolis in October.

Where do I find this information - or is it a secret judges thing?
So what would you do? Would you show her against what is sure to be superb competition?

First off I am not a judge. With that said the APA standard list crooked toes as a cut of 1/2 to 2 points and says nothing (that I'm aware of) of partially missing toes, sense its not listed as a DQ its not a DQ. Although Your birds are not bantams the ABA standard list missing part of a toe or toe nail as as 1 point each. If you don't see any other defects and she has the exceptional type that you say she does I would go ahead and show her. while 1 point may be the difference between getting best of breed and not it will not get you laughed off the show floor.

Hadn't thought of that senario!

It's important to remember each toe is a separate points cut so several damaged toes and missing toe nails may be worse than one partially missing toe. 1 crooked toe is 1/2 to 2 points so 2 crooked toes are 1 to 4 points and so on.

Missing a part of a toe is a 1 point cut for each toe. Per APA SOP: Breed Shape; Shanks & Toes. p. 31 in the 2010 edition.
