Lakeside, Oregon
So here we are, new yard, planting like mad. I have put in 4 rose bushes so far and have 2 more delivered today PLUS several Oregon native roses.
To me, a rose is a failure if it has no smell. I weep over the supermarket ones that look so lovely and last so long but have all the smell of a potato! So one if my criteria is it must smell good. Others are pretty (of course) and good disease resistant.
We've done business with the company linked below for years.

Their customer service is first class, and their shipping is well done. But the most important thing is that ALL their roses are "own root" roses, which means they aren't grafted onto another rose (for vigor). Grafted roses, if they freeze or die down to the roots, can and will come up from the graft and you end up with a rose that looks and performs nothing like what you bought...usually it's not very pretty...so we stick with own-root roses.
But anyway...the one in the photo here is called "Lady of the Mist" and it's been teasing me with this bud for several days now. I will show you how it looks when it finally opens. But you out there who love roses...show me what ya got!

I agree scent is important! This is Reine des Violettes.

The rose in front is a hybrid tea called Distant Drums. The one in back I don’t know the name of, but I have dug it up and moved it with me several times and it keeps on going. It’s definitely on its own roots and blooms all summer.

Oh, they're gorgeous! What sort of fragrance do they have? I've seen roses' scents described as "fruity, citrus, musky, vanilla"...

The first one I’d describe as spicy. The other two, sweet. I have/had a few others, but due to a downed fence, I had to temporarily put the horses in the garden area and they ate the roses. I‘m hoping they will grow back! Has your bloom opened yet?
This is another good source of antique roses

No! It's still building. We've had rain, which maybe slows down a rose bud opening? I really need it to, because a friend is in hospice and I would like to take my very first rose in this new yard to her, which I hopefully will have time to.
