Ok, experts. Question for you!
My 2 showgirls (and silkie in the same pen) all had NICE foot feathering, correct with feathering on the middle toe......LAST TIME I LOOKED. now, about a month later, both showgirls have broken feathers on middle toe so almost no feathering shows, and on the silkie, it looks like h never had feathering on that toe. I KNOW they did, because I was happy about it being so correct.
So, I have them on the floor of the coop, on shavings. I use the deep litter method. Should I have them on something different? Will the feathers grow back" Any thoughts? On the male showgirl, I guess it doesn't matter too much, as I don't care for his wing feathers (too many hard feathers) but he is looking pretty typey for just 5 months old. Well shoot. any thoughts would be great.
