So, I am wanting to show my Mottled Cochin's in a show. Thing is I have some questions...

*Do you take the bird out to show?
*What do you do with the bird when showing?
*Dose the bird stay in the cage?
*Dose the judge just look at it in the cage to judge it?

Thanks!

4-H
1) For a 4H show you take your bird out of the cage, and up to a table
2) In any class, except showmanship, you will most likely take the bird up to the table and when the judge comes to you they will say "Tell me about your bird", and then they will take your bird and look it over. For Showmanship you need to know as much about your bird and poultry in general as you possibly can, and your bird needs to be as well mannered as possible.
3) Same answer to #1
4) Same as #1

Open
1) The bird stays in the cage, usually the aisle or whole building will be closed off and the judge will go through all the bird
2) Nothing you are not allowed by the bird
3)Yes
4) It depends, usually yes, but if it is an obvious choice sometimes the judge will leave the bird in the cage

As for which is easier to show in, it all depends. My birds place better in the Open show just because they can get places such as BV,BB, and Res Asiatic. But in 4H I can also win showmanship and you get more of an insight as to what the judge likes and dislikes about your birds

When you get to the show you will have to check in, then you will get your exhibitor number. From there you will go find the aisle/s that contain the class of your bird, I am assuming they are bantam, so it would be a featherleg. Form there you will find the cages with your exhibitor number on the coop tags, and put the correct birds in them
