Is their anyone that knows where I can find any poultry shows near Rome NY. I have 25 chickens just about 6 weeks and want to start researching. My favorites are my barred rocks, but I also have a new Hampshire red hen that is adorable. also, can you show a rooster????????

There is a show June 3rd in Syracuse at the NYS Fairgrounds, Poultry bldg. That is probably the closest and soonest near you. You can download a copy of the entry form at : http://fingerlakesfeatherclub.weebly.com/ They require a Pullorum test for each bird you enter. Its probably too late for you to arrange testing, but if you want to show chickens at any show, you have to have it done.

im thinking of rome pa. i live down on the border near elmira..i dont have anything ready for sayrecuse, there are severeral shows in our area in fall..you can show , rooster, hen, pullet, cockeral..sometimes they have egg division and pairs ect...just depends on the show.

to add to marquisellas post. you can call nys dept of agriculture. they come for free and test your birds and put a leg band on all birds over 4 months.. if you dont have very many then its best to have all of them done, they dont like to make the trip for under 8 birds..the birds need to be caged as they are blood tested then recaged to wait till the end of the testing process..its really simple if you get it all organised ahead of time..they check for clean premisis, cobwebs, well nourished birds ect...sometimes you can box them and take the few you want to show to a pullorum clinic that usda puts on in different locations usually at fair grounds.

Your best research is actually going to a show.
Stop and talk to the exhibitors, bring a camera and a note pad, study the entry forms, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Just don't bother the judges while they are busy judging. Some shows actually block off the area they are working in.
And most important of all is to have fun!
Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes.

Your birds will be too young to show by 6/3. However, if you can make it to the show it will be an opportunity to see how a poultry show works & get your questions answered. I'll be at this show & would be happy to talk with you & show you around. PM me if interested & we'll make a plan to meet.

Hello, NYREDS
Are you showing any of your birds at the show?
Probably a few. Not the best time of years for showing for me at least. Adult birds are still recovering from the breeding pens eg: regrowing damaged feathers. The young birds aren't mature yet. I do have a few adult birds that I think are in good enough shape to show.
At this point I plan to show 2 each of my Golden Campines, SC Reds & Partridge Wyandotte Bantams.
Are you planning to attend & show?
