Hey guys! First time hatching a duck egg. External pip was observed at 1:55 pm yesterday (might have been earlier but I was on a 3 hour conference call). Last night (around 9 pm), it appeared to have a slightly larger crack next to the original pip. This morning, after realizing there was no additional progress overnight, I opted to gently pull off the pieces that were cracked to see what was going on and saw the baby breathing inside, so I opted to leave her as is to continue with her journey.
Fast forward 6 hours, and I haven't seen any progress, so I gently chipped off a few additional small pieces of the shell to see if there was an issue - and this is what the membrane looks like. Seems a bit tight on the face and dry looking (I read that a 'paper mache' look is not ideal and that's the kind of the appearance it has). Advice? The incubator is at 99.5/70% humidity.
She chirps occasionally and moves her head around a good amount but that's all she's been doing for the majority of the day. I know I need to be patient as this process can take time, but I'm a bit worried about the appearance of the membrane and want to make sure she's set up for success.
