I hatched(bator) out 3 healthy baby ducks yesterday and a 4th one was starting to peep. I wrnt to church and came back and my adult daughter had come over to see us and heard the little duck chirping, and OPENED MY INCUBATOR!!!!!! UGG WHO DOES THAT! I explained to her that she couldve just killed my duck and its probably gonna get shrink wrapped in there. Nevertheless, i increased the humity a bit and kept an eye on the lil guy for the last 10 hours. He was definately stuck! It appears that a piece of his shell is stuck over a small little place of his eye. I assisted, no bloody membranes and yolk ascended but now that hes out, he has that egg shell stuck to his face. I am scared to hurt him. What can i do? Also he has a thick coating of "gunk" that is drying real hard all over him, unlike i have ever seen before.(this is my 5th time to hatch from a bator)

Pics? Here ya go. The little piece of shell is dried up under a layer of gunky stuff all over his body. Hes not drying like normal and his fur is getting harder from the gunk???

I had a chick that had it concreted to his head on my first hatch...I took warm water and dipped a qtip in it and just kept working with it til it lifted. He's 13 weeks old now and healthy lil fellow!
Thank you. I bathed her and she started to feel much better....and she is eatin and had a bowel movement so positive changes!!!!. Her feet were tucked under so i looked at another thread and it said to splint with credit card or cardboard. Did that... she is eating and doing great. Tried ro introdice her to siblings a day old and she hung in there.Still need to get gunk off her little head but wanted to wait until she was a bit stronger. Thanks for your tip. Happy days!
