Hello, oes anyone have advise on losing chickens? I have lost three young chickens, each started getting weak and depressed. Then they stop eating, started sleeping a lot or acting semi-conscious and then death. THis process takes less than a week. .I am sad today as I lost my beautiful Golden Egyptian fayoumis Bantam in this way. My other chickens are healthy and active.

Oh man! I'm so sorry!

You might want to post this in the Emergency/Injuries/ Cures and Diseases section, but, I don't know, could it be from a lack of sunlight or calcium, maybe? That's just a guess on my part though...

Hello and welcome to BYC

Sorry to hear about your losses. I see you already posted in emergencies and diseases. Can you tell us more about your chickens? What are you feeding them, do they free range etc. Much detail as possible. But post over in E&D, the members who are more experienced in those matters hang out there. Good luck!

Hello and welcome to BYC from Kentucky! So sorry to hear about your chickens. The causes of death can be for many different reasons. It's very important to list all symptoms you have observed in your birds. Please post in the https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures section. I'm not sure how many chickens you have but at this time you should isolate any other chickens which seem to be sick as well. I'm also providing you with this list of Common Known Poultry Diseases. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044 for future reference. Wishing you the best of luck!

Thankyou everyone, so much for your support. I wish I had joined BYC sooner, I might have been able to save her. We are now allowed to have up to 8 chickens in Denver, Colorado but there is no one here that is knowledgable including the feed stores who are reluctant to give advise. And we do not have a foul veterinarian.
I feed my six, well five now MannaPro egg laying feed and also scratch. The also give them a few uncooked peas.
I am thinking from your responces that it was cocci that killed her and will try to find the medicine for that if someone else gets sick.

If it was truly Cocci chances are great the others may have been infected too. Coccidiosis is transmitted by chickens eating droppings by other infected chickens. The droppings contain an organism called oocysts. These ooycsts can stay live inside a coop or brooder up to 12 months. Cocci survives best in damp and warm conditions. Everything your chickens have came into contact with must be sterilized thoroughly. Bleach will not kill cocci. Ammonia is a good choice as a sanitizer.

Thanks, it doesn't seem to be cocci. She had white coatings on her feathers at the shaft. I wonder if it might be mites.
