Our friend ordered ducks & they came faster than expected before he left for 2 days & he was I'll prepared. No heat lamp, etc. My husband went to check on them & they all were dead except for one. She was cuddled up to the dead ones for heat. We took her home to put with our ducklings to give her a chance. She's smaller than our other ducklings & the chick's were walking all over her so I put her in her own cage with a heat lamp, water with save-a-chick & non medicated starter & a stuffed animal for company. At 1st she wouldn't drink on her own & couldnt hold her head up. After hand feeding her moistened food & water for a day, she's now eating on her own. She wouldn't poop until I gave her a bath & washed her butt. At 1st she would only poop when I put her in warm water, but now she's pooping on her own
She still can't walk. Her left leg is still pretty limp & the bottom of her bill extends further than her top. Are these all nutrient deficiencies? She usees both legs when she swims. Now she's chirping, holding up her head, pooping, eating & drinking on her own and is in much better spirits but am I missing something? Niacin? Brewers yeast? I'm new to this & I really want her to pull through!

You might want to try niacin and poultry vitamins. But, does she stick her tongue out like that all the time? That's not normal.

Thanks for answering! Her tongue is tucked in but her bottom beek is always sticking out. At first she wouldn't eat & had difficulty, but after I hand fed her & she had strength to hold up her head she's eating fine on her own. Still not walking, but she'll turn herself around. I was hoping someone knew about the bottom sticking out & hopfully it is just from her being nutrient deficient? Google wasn't very helpful.

It's highly probable that the under bite is due to a nutritional deficiency. Make sure the little friend is getting the correct ratio of protein and calcium, which most starters have. It's important to act now as this is the most important time of the growth process.

In addition to making sure it's well fed, I also want to add that putting organic apple cider vinegar (ONLY Bragg's Brand w/ the Mother) in the water really helps in keeping them strong and healthy. It works wonders for any infections, respiratory infections, etc.. and they perk right up. [Ratio: ~2 tablespoons to 1 gallon of water]. As it gets older you can start putting a shot glass full of ACV in 1 gallon of water.

Note: When I had noticed a breathing problem with my Peking, (I even did 1 shot glass full of ACV to 1/2 a gallon and it worked wonders. Make sure that this is the only water they are drinking for a couple days (or more) and keep an eye them.

The AVC will help with the immune system and aid in its overall well being.

Keep us updated!

Aloha duck thank you SO MUCH!We have Braggs & that's easy. She's in good spirits today & is trying to scoot/move around a little. Today she's kinda leaning more towards the side with her leg not working as well. It does feel like she's gotten a little more mass to her from eating. We named her Hope & I would really like to do everything possible to help her. I sincerely appreciate your help!

Might there be something terribly wrong with her? She's eating, drinking & pooping but she's still not standing or walking. She scoots a lil bit from time to time though,
so I think she's wants to get around.
