Sick bird?

I had a bird unable to walk looked like it was paralyzed. I thought it may have been some kind of disease and the bird was hissing and seamed to be in a lot of pain so I removed it from the other birds gave it a day to look for improvements and then killed him after 24 hours just seemed like he was miserable and hissing all day.

I cleaned the bird, not planning to eat but wanted to see what may Have been wrong.

I found this discoloration on the spinal cord and some inside the bird.

Almost looks like loung tissue but not where it should be.

many thoughts on what it could be? Cancers? Disease?

Sorry for you loss. I believe that the bright spongy red tissue is the lungs. Actually lungs in chickens on in the upper back next to the spine. Was the chicken injured? Paralysis could be from Mareks disease. Was was paralyzed—the legs, wings, or the neck? Usually Mareks causes lameness in one or both legs. The wings sometimes are affected, or a twisted neck. Botulism could also cause flaccid paralysis in the feet and legs, which then can progress up the spinal cord to wings and neck.

seemed to only effect the legs. I could held him up and balance for him and his legs would not go limp, but he had no ability to move them or catch his balance. Wings seemed fine.
I don’t believe an injury in the wide open space I have them in is possible.

do I need to worry about the others in the same area?
the breeder was McFarlen or something like that, I believe all the birds were vaccinated too (10). I have them near my chickens too if that’s of any concern too.

That is lung tissue. It's hard to tell very well from the pic but it does appear to have a lesion on it's liver, it could have been Mareks?
Do you still have the carcass? You could get a vet or send to your state lab for testing!

It isn't a good practice to have gamebirds near chickens, they (chickens) can transfer diseases that they can tolerate but will kill gamebirds.
