I just noticed about two days ago my 2 year old Buff Orpington wasn't looking so well. Her comb looks really droopy and flushed. That was the first thing I noticed. Then yesterday I noticed some pooh on her feathers look kind of greenish. Today she seems really weak and if one of the others chickens touches her she kind of falls over and catches herself with her wing. I decided to start her on some antibiotics today. When I picked her up I noticed she felt hot like she has a fever. I also noticed she is feeling really skinny. I hadn't noticed before because, Buff Orpingtons have such fluffy feathers. She is really just skin and bones and she is usually quite meaty feeling. :0( The only other thing I have noticed is that she has a bump on her eye that kind of looks like a stye. I don't know if that has anything to do with this or not but, I figured the more info the better.

So does anyone have any idea what I should do or what could be wrong.

Please help me!!!! If I don't do something really quick I don't think she is gonna pull through.

Look at this beautiful face please help me help her.

WWWWWWWWW she looks like such a sweet heart, I wish I knew an exact answer for you,
but first things first check for bugs....mites...... then check her feces for worms..... add a vitamin supplement to her water to give her strength, even electrolytes for babies will help, I read several people used Gatorade, but I wouldn't........ polyvisol would be best. or liquid children's vitamins might help give her some strength. scramble her some eggs and try getting her to eat some....... eggs are pure protein it couldn't hurt.......... chickens are prone to many illnesses/diseases and I will let the more experienced ppl do the diagnosing of what else it could be. sorry I wasn't more help..................Kim

What are the symptoms of mites and worms?

You should be able to see them look closely at her bum.....LOL around the tail head if there are mites tghey should be visable, not sure about the pooh, and what to look for, have seen suggested that they are ALSO VISIBLE IN THE POOP my chickens sometimes pooh green after free ranging and no one has been sick so far.. i use DE to help with worms.. did have northern fowl mites this spring though... you will notice a grayish flaky substance around the feather shaft if you have those.....

What is DE. Did you worm everyone just in case. I will check for mites in the morning. Checking her vent for bugs sounds kind of gross. Thanks for the help.

I came across your thread while searching for what to do for my own sick girl... I don't have any advice really, but I'm sorry your pretty girl is feeling poorly. I don't think mine is going to pull through, but I'm going to try to get her to eat some oatmeal, yogurt, scrambled egg, *something*- poor thing. I read somewhere about giving some infant vitamin drops, maybe you could try that? Doesn't seem like it could hurt anything.
