I have a beautiful 2 week old chick who just today started holding it's head to one side (as if it can't hold it's head up). Has anyone ever seen this symptom before? I have 8 other chicks in the brood box - do I separate them? Do chickens get earaches? I'm hoping it's something simple - this is a beautiful chick and I'd hate to lose it.

I have a bantam nakin roo, he's 11 months now. When he was about a month old he started leaning his head to one side, and yawning A LOT. I looked in his ear and it had this cheesy like substance. I brought him inside and kept him by himself. I had tried duramycin in his water because I wasn't comfortable injecting him. It didn't clear it up, I gave him tylan-50 orally 2 times a day for 7 days, and that didn't work. I tried squirting some hydrogen peroxide and warm water in his ear,and it cleaned the cheese right out, I did the hydrogen peroxide everyday for 4 days, and then after his ear was cleaned out, I dropped about 4 drops of tylan in his ear. After 7 days his ears were completely healed and he no longer tilted his head. He is a happy and healthy boy now. Hopefully your little baby gets better!

Oh and if you are comfortable injecting tylan, For my little guy it was recommended by my vet to inject .10 ccs for a baby, and .25ccs for an adult. Orally .10 ccs twice a day, if you want to just drop it in the ears, I used 3-4 drops.
