I picked up 9 chicks from Mt. Healthy Hatchery yesterday (3 buff orps, 3 RIR and 3 Silver Laced Wyandottes). All seem very healthy except one. She appears to have a little bit of damage to her wing (a little dried blood), she doesn't lay down to sleep - just hangs her head to the floor and is not eating or drinking. She seems to like it when I hold her. The other chicks don't seem to be bothering her. I wonder if anyone has any ideas of what I can do to get her to eat?

i would try and find some treats that she likes (worms, strawberries, blackberries, mango, watermellon, ect) and she if that works

Try wetting her chick starter with warm water and see if she'll take it. I went through the same thing with a few of mine. If she doesn't, try wetting the mash with a little molasses and water, and make it runnier. Put a little on your finger and see if she'll peck at it. A bit of sugar water in an eye dropper might perk her up-if that doesn't work, try a little Gatorade or some such-just a few drops.

If she goes, it wasn't your fault; sometimes they just fail to thrive and die on you. If you've done all you can, then you did your best.

Let us know what happens.

Sure hope your little one makes it!! Healing

Thanks to all - I'll give these suggestions a try.

I tried making a mash, treats and sugar water. My poor little chick doesn't show any interest in eating. I did manage to get a little bit of sugar water in her. The other chicks were picking at her a little bit so I made a little infirmary for her. Cornered off a bit of the brooder with a cardboard with holes in it. Funny thing is she keeps her eyes closed most of the time. I'm wondering if she might be blind.

Help! I have 5 gold laced wyandotte chicks that are 8 days old. 4 of them are really growing but one is not. They were all the same size when I got them last week. It has not grown at all. I separated it from the others because it is so tiny and it was getting kinda pushed around but not picked on. It seems to eat , drink and poop ok. Should I worry?
