I have week old chicks. My mom went in the hospital so I wasn't home much yesterday. This morning I noticed one of them had pasty butt so I washed her off in warm water and loosened the poo till it came off. Then put her back but she is really lethargic and sick. We have been trickling water down her throat to keep her hydrated. When the babies first came I gave them sugar water but after the first day switched to water that has electrolytes and probiotics in it. What can I do for my poor baby? She will move around but isn't eating.

I actually came on here to find help for the same....one of my chicks about a week old has stopped eating and I'm afraid she's not going to make it. I have been giving her sugar water every couple of hours and feeding her a mixture of starter mash with electrolytes and vitamins. I don't want to prolong her suffering, but I don't want to give up on her if I can help turn her around. Can a chick that is seemingly dying be saved by such efforts???

Thanks for the posts, but she just died.

To Boxstall Biddies--Have you tried feeding some scrambled or hard boiled egg? Maybe you can add electrolytes to the water as well. Water is so critical--they die faster by dehydration than starvation. Good luck to you
