Hello everyone. I picked up my 8 chicks yesterday. They are different ages, so I have the little ones (5 of them) in a brooder separated from the big girls. One of the little Campines (just over a week old), is listless and not eating. He is standing off by himself and doesn't seem interested in much. This one also has pasty butt, the only one of all of them. His egg-mates seem to be doing well (although one seems to have a sore leg but otherwise is perky with a good appetite). These are my very first chicks. I got them from a local breeder who hatched them in her house. Could he still just be stressed out from the move? What can I do for this little one? I'd really appreciate any advice or help. I don't want to lose any of my chicks.
Thanks,
Artie

You really can't do much other than tend to the pasty butt, maybe work on getting extra fluid in it, maybe with moistened feed or a bit of yogurt. A Tbsp of organic ACV in the water might help as well.

Unfortunately, some just weren't meant to make it. Only time will tell.

Good luck with your chicks.

Just my thought but, Are you feeding medicated feed or adding it to the water? Antibiotics can help because when chicks are under stress - they can easily get sick. I put it in my chicks water and have had no sick chicks. I will keep them on it until they are 6 -8 weeks old and I am sure they are settled into new coop and run. Good luck hope your little peep makes it.

Thank you for your good wishes. Yes, the babies are on medicated feed and I put a little sugar in their water per the breeder's instructions. I saw him pecking at his food a little this evening but he's pretty wobbly and I realize that he's smaller than his egg-mates. Still, I will take it as a hopeful sign that he had a little appetite.

I'm going to be biting my nails when I check the brooder in the morning.

Wow - when I peeked into the brooder room this morning, my three little Campines were tearing around like mad and eating and drinking! The one who was listless yesterday seems so much better. I can't believe it.

These little guys are so precious.
