Need some advice. I have a chicken with ascites. I successfully drained fluid off of her and she gradually drained for a few days after from the punctures where I used the syringe. She’s much more comfortable but she’s not snapping back like others have. She’s secluded in a crate in the house and is just not thriving. I suspect she’s got a secondary bacterial infection going on in her abdomen and thought I’d treat her with injectable Baytril. Unfortunately I learned that in California, effective 1/1/18, it’s illegal to sell antibiotics for livestock unless it’s from a licensed veterinarian.
I work crazy long hours so getting her to a regular vet isn’t possible...which means I’d have to take her to an emergency vet and that’s a bit ridiculous.
Looking for any advice on what others are doing. I feel like this new law has caught me totally unprepared.
