So almost two weeks ago I noticed my hen acting a bit weird, she just wasn't herself and wasn't eating a lot. She just laid her first egg the day before. She is about 24 weeks, Ayam Cemani, and has always been a very petite girl compared to the rest of the flock. I immediately separated her from the flock and brought her in the house thinking maybe it was an issue with her passing another egg, I heard the first few can be tough for the petite girlies. I gave her an epsom soak and electrolyte water to help with the lethargy. Well she ended up laying an egg but didn't improve so I took her to the vet, which was a waste because they told me she was egg bound smh. She was not, she did lay an egg the next day but then I noticed she was having a hard time roosting, then walking, and then it all went down from there.
Now she can't hold herself up at all, her legs seems to still work though because she fights me every chance she gets. Her toes still curl and extend, both wings are operable still. She was eating a little before so I started her on vitamins (E, Selenium, Nutridench, pro biotic) in her food/water. This was just under a week ago when I did this and I know it takes awhile for them to recover from a deficiency. Now she won't eat at all, and is doing this labored breathing. Not like the heat stress panting but like deep breaths? I am not sure how to help her. I called the vet and they told me to bring her again but they are going to charge me another urgent care fee and I really don't want to spend $$$ just for them to misdiagnose her again. Currently I am just dropping water on her beak and she does smack at it and I have been trying raw honey for some calories. Any clue what this could be? or encourage her to eat at least?
This all started around 9/7 and the breathing issues just started in the last few days. I do have her on supplemental heat since she is probably anemic due to the lack of caloric intake. I have 6 hens total and everyone else is doing just fine, I did give them some vitamins just in case, but otherwise no other issues with them. Any advice would be appreciated! I work from home so I am willing to put in the work as long as she is fighting to stick around the mortal plane. Thanks
