I massaged it last night it was hard. She does have chic grit as well as sand and gravel outside. I will keep updating, thank you for the help. She may have a crop problem. It should feel full in the evening, and be mostly empty by early morning before she eats. If it is not empty check it it is hard, doughy, or puffy like a balloon. Give her plenty of water, and massage the crop tonight, and if her crop is still full in the morning, contiuing the water and crop massage several times a day. Let us know what you find. Does she have access to chicken grit to help her digest her food?
I don't know what breed she is, I didn't smell anything foul when I was holding her. This morning it was a little better. I will continue to massage her and also buy chicken grit. Thank you so much, this is my first time with chickens so all information is greatly appreciated!! Oh, I got her from mcmurray hatchery in a rare breed layer collection. Any help on her breed would help. Also, at her age it's time for chicken grit. Chick grit is too small for her now. Does her breath smell funky-sour or rotten? Is she a Welsummer? Just curious.
I have not weighed her ever..what's the best way? I don't think it is her crop. It feels squishy.....the bulge is definitely a bone. She is smaller than her "twin". Thank you for that link, it was very helpful.Have you ever weighed her? Keeping track of weight is a very helpful tool in your toolkit. It sort of sounds like you're feeling her keel and not her crop. Good info here: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2014/06/chicken-anatomy-crop-impacted-crop-sour.html
Are you sure she's not eating or drinking? What does the crop feel like today? How do her poops look?
